This was orginally posted on the Orchid Homepage soon after the death of Carrie Fisher on Dec. 27, 2016.
Life is hard, even for the child of Hollywood Royalty that Carrie Fisher certainly was.
A drug user at 13, her substance use issues couldn't have helped the mental health issues that included a diagnosis of bipolar disorder.
But somehow, by being willing to be so brutally and sometimes hilariously honest---Carrie Fisher in her sometimes gossipy way could have a healing effect -- at least for me -- and I don't think I'm the only one.
There are people right now in the Denver Detention Center who need the kind of support and treatment Carrie Fisher got during her life to deal with extremely hard to treat substance and mental health issues.
They have talents and skills that need to be developed and have off the wall senses of humor that will knock your socks off.
RIP Carrie, we'll never be able to thank you enough.
