Orchid Mental Health Legal Advocacy of Colorado, Inc. is a non-profit organization started by attorney Valerie Corzine. The organization is dedicated to working with persons perceived to have a serious mental illness in need of complex Medicaid services to live in the community, humane treatment in prisons and jails-- better still a reasonable alternative to prisons and jails, and, of course -- food and housing.
Val worked early in her career at the Oklahoma County District Attorney's Office, then several years in a private law practice in Oklahoma City concentrating on family law matters.
More recently, Val worked as Colorado's Legal Assistance Developer for the Elderly and the Senior Attorney in the Protection and Advocacy Program for Individuals with Mental Illness at The Legal Center for People with Disabilities and Older People.
Orchid works with the Colorado Legal Community, other mental health advocates, people in the mental health and disability communities, other concerned people and organizations, and, of course, the people affected by these issues themselves to add our efforts to the many others who have dedicated their lives to furthering practical, reasonable, caring and real solutions to some of the most profound problems facing people with serious mental illness in Colorado today.
