What's the point? Cognitive Disability or Difference is about more than the Brain. We do not need PERFECT KNOWLEDGE to know we don't have enough knowledge to punish people. We do have REAL SAFETY ISSUES and RESOURCES ISSUES. We need to INTEGRATE Criminal Justice and Public Health. |

Schizophrenia May Be Linked To Immune System Three new genetic studies are providing some tantalizing hints about what causes schizophrenia. New research published in Nature suggests that genes affecting the immune system may be linked to schizophrenia. The endocrine system is another postulated source for the chronic inflammation associated with schizophrenia. Especially implicated are certain conditions including metabolic syndrome, obesity, and diabetes as well as basic differences in disease pathophysiology between males and females (11–13). These conditions are often the result of antipsychotics that slow metabolism and contribute to weight gain and a disrupted metabolic state. Author: Emily G. Severance, Faith Dickerson, Robert H. Immune System
ADHD and immune system Immune System Gene Tied to ADHD. It protects neurons as they age, and guards against various non-immune stresses. The protein also appears to be involved in setting up the development of neurons early in life, encouraging the healthy growth of brain cells that secrete and respond to dopamine -- a vital brain chemical implicated in ADHD.Immune System Gene Tied to ADHD consumer.healthday.com/kids-health-information-23/attention-deficit-disorder-a… Endocrine System
Rather than avoiding the monthly fluctuations of hormones, Dr. Haimov-Kochman and Dr. Berger suggest new studies should focus on the subtle fluctuations and combinations of hormones that influence emotions and executive function to understand the role of hormones in ADHD. The endocrine system is comprised of multiple glands that produce different kinds of hormones. It is an interconnected system that is slow acting, with long-lasting impacts.Hormonal Fluctuations Affect Women’s ADHD Symptoms—Part ... chadd.org/adhd-weekly/hormonal-fluctuations-affect-womens-adhd-symptoms-part … |

Down syndrome immune system Hyperactivity of the immune system can be found in multiple parts of the body of someone with Down syndrome. Because of this hyperactivity, people with Down syndrome are more likely to develop autoimmune disorders, which is when the body attacks healthy cells instead of invaders such as viruses. Down syndrome endocrine Individuals with Down syndrome have a higher incidence of endocrine problems than the general population. The endocrine system refers to a set of glands that include the thyroid, adrenal and pituitary glands. Hypothyroidism results from a malfunctioning thyroid gland.
