Susannah Calahan's: "The Great Pretender"
"Pretensions to certainty can be seductive, eking out a temporary tactical advantage, but their victories are often brittle.
"Once the veneer of impermeability gets cracked, it “breeds an anti-science backlash born of distrust,” Cahalan writes.
"Instead of arrogance, her book counsels humility. As one Oxford psychiatrist haltingly puts it: “I think we should be honest about — acknowledge how limited our understanding is.”

Ms. Taylor, Elise & Melanie -- tackling a Tough Topic --
Suicide Prevention
[A kind note from Media Specialist LouAnne Taylor & 2 sixth graders -- Melanie & Elise]
Hi - I'm reaching out to offer you some positive feedback on the suicide prevention resources listed on your page ( https://orchidadvocacy.org/resources-on-a-difficult-topic-suicide.html ) . I'm a media specialist, and I'm helping a couple of 6th grade girls(Melanie and Elise) that have a health project due on Friday. It's on a sensitive subject, youth depression and suicide, and I struggled at first with how to go about helping to teach 11 year olds about such a tough and heartbreaking subject. The girls and I did some research together online for information, and your page was such a great resource for them, I wanted to let you know and to say thank you. Though difficult to talk about, it's so important to educate young people about depression & suicide, remove the stigma, and help them to recognize warning signs for anyone that may be struggling. I also wanted to pass along another resource that Melanie found on Suicide Prevention Information at: https://choicemutual.com/suicide-prevention/ . It describes many of the warning signs of suicide ideation to look out for in friends and loved ones, and what to do to get them help. It even provides an additional section for teachers and educators which I found to be extremely helpful as well. The article was really useful to both girls for their projects, so I thought I'd pass it along to you as a thank you in case you wanted to add it to your other resources. I know Melanie would feel so proud and accomplished if the guide she found was able to help anyone else. |

Coming to Terms with Cognitive Disability in People who are Justice-Involved -- we're the ones who must change and provide the:
- Housing
- Services,
- Placements and
- Supported Employment
That commitment could be much longer than the average sentence.
We've talked a lot about INTEGRATION.
We're not going to have a VIABLE Health System without Radical Integration of Physical & Mental Health, especially in Mental Health where much of the treatment is so partial as to be wrong.
Likewise, we need Radical Integration of CO's Division of Housing & HCPF.
There are people in State Gov't who are experts in Fair Housing -- they just don't happen to be @ HCPF or among most Medicaid providers -- and those housing experts are desperately needed by HCPF to govern their own policies and provide guidance to providers.
Further, the Attorney General's Office might be able to help.
