Scientists study link between unhealthy pregnancy diet and ADHD
Experts examine how a diet high in fat and sugar could alter baby’s DNA in a way that might cause behavioural problems
"Co-author Dr Edward Barker, from the department of psychology at KCL [Kings College London], stressed that parents with children with ADHD should not blame themselves because diet was just one factor, albeit a potentially significant one.
“ADHD/conduct problems are very complex psychiatric problems, they are multi-determined,” he said. “Diet could be important but it’s going to be important alongside a host of other risks. A sensible diet can improve symptoms but it’s not a single causal agent.”
So our point is that ADHD is a problem for a significant percentage of the incarcerated population (see ADHD, Crime & Prison Issues ), diet during pregnancy is a significant risk factor to altering DNA along with other risk factors that are much more complicated than just being BAD-- BUT we're really not treating this as a PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE. --- That's Got To Change.

MI Health Disparity & Inequity In Action
Willliam W. Dodson, M.D., is a board-certified psychiatrist who has specialized in adults with ADHD for the last 22 years. A former faculty member at Georgetown University and the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, Dodson is a Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of ADDitude Magazine’s Medical Advisory Board.
The book details the relationship between developmental, cognitive, psychological, and educational disorders—specific conditions including ADHD, bipolar disorder, and autism spectrum disorder—and delinquency in light of both their overrepresentation among youth offenders and the uninformed handling of these youth within the court system.
(Dr. Dodson is one of the foremost national and international experts in ADHD & he just happens to be right here in Colorado.
Where is his office -- NOT on Colfax. In Greenwood Village -- now that sounds right. (BTW -- This is NOT a knock against Dr. Bill Dodson who We're BIG FANS OF -- BUT IT SHOULD BE READ AS A FURIOUS INDICTMENT OF "THE SYSTEM.")
Dr. Dodson has some of the most profound insights into ADHD than anyone around -- even beyond that a significant factor for ADHD is a high fat, high sugar diet during pregnancy.
