3. Nothing about us without us: criminal justice edition
There are a lot of stakeholders to be considered and heard when it comes to criminal justice-- the community, the victims, the State.
Often we tend to feel the person who is convicted of a crime has really forfeited all of his or her rights and that often extends even to people who are merely accused of a crime. But the fact of the matter is those people have a lot of insight into what is working with our various systems and what isn't. Our democracy will be immeasurably strengthened if we involve people subject to involvement in the criminal justice system in our planning and improvement processes AND REALLY ANYTHING THAT MAY CONCERN THEM/US. |
