AN InConvenient truth
Fear of Stereotyping Has and In Some Cases Still Is Leading to a Failure to Sufficiently Champion the Human Rights Struggle going on in Criminal Justice for fear of offending some delicate "mental health" sensibilities -- that don't want to own these people as "one of our own."
Another inconvenient truth is that the institutions containing the greatest number of people with mental illness are Colorado Jails and Prisons.
Further, when we say people who are homeless are at risk of institutionalization -- the risk of jail and prison is right up there.
We're not for stereotyping. Acknowledging reality is not stereotyping.
What has become very obvious over the last year or so is that the Mental Health Community is very broad and vast --- millions and millions of people AND we can afford to let our Humanity show.
In fact, we think it is essential to do so.
